Lithuanian Children’s Relief
This is a charitable, non-profit corporation that was formed to assist the poor
and orphaned children in Lithuania after its independence from the Soviet Union.
It is led by Sister Helen Ivanauskas of the Sisters of Jesus Crucified. During
the last 15 years, under her direction, the organization has sent 224 cargo
containers of clothes, food and medical supplies and equipment to help those
in need. This group has also sent doctors to Lithuania to perform operations
and to teach doctors there the latest techniques. The Lithuanian Children’s
Relief also sponsors children from Lithuania to the U.S to have emergency and
cosmetic surgeries that are unavailable in their homeland. This organization
has helped literally thousands of children in need and is dedicated to helping
thousands more.
Greater Brockton Center for Dispute Resolution (GBCDR)
This is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that was originally organized
in 1974. It operates out of the Brockton District Court and in coordination
with the Clerk’s office there, but is an independent entity. Its
basic function is to recruit, train and supervise qualified individuals
to act as mediators to work in conjunction with the Brockton Court. By
doing so it provides resolution of nearly 70 percent of the cases it receives,
easing the burden on the court’s docket. Since its inception, the
GBCDF has been successfully providing people and businesses from Brockton
and surrounding communities the option of resolving disputes peacefully
and cooperatinvely through the mediation process. It provides all parties
with a safe forum where they can be heard and provides the opportunity
to resolve their conflicts quickly and without cost. - More -
Teen Challenge
Teen Challenge is a 15 to 21-month Christian residential drug recovery
program that is part of a network of 10 Teen Challenge centers across New
England and New Jersey, with its headquarters in Brockton. The program has
a strong faith-based approach and offers spiritual, academic and vocational
training that equips individuals to return to society as responsible citizens.
A number of the program’s graduates have experienced complete recovery
from drug and alcohol addiction. They have told us that the key to their
success was developing a personal relationship with God and putting into
practice all that they had learned while in our program. From the beginning,
Teen Challenge has operated based on the concept that a person with life
controlling problems can change - if that person wants help. - More -
